Why does history fascinate us? Perhaps it’s because we like to relate past events, people, and practices to the present. We’re fascinated at how things were done in the past, and what people thought --- and why. Sometimes, we learn from mistakes made by others, but often we don’t! History repeats itself. King Solomon seems to indicate this, too.
History is frequently “rewritten” or interpreted these days to reflect current beliefs, declining moral values, and/or political correctness. For example, there is incredible evidence that ancient man achieved a high degree of sophistication on many levels. This doesn’t fit the current evolutionary dogma, so evidence like this is often simply ignored by some researchers, or reduced to insignificance, or even attributed to alien activity. But, indeed, how did great civilizations of the past, supposedly lower on the evolutionary time scale, accomplish amazing things that we know little or nothing of today? What happened to them, and why? Can we learn anything from them?
The Bible provides a different view by teaching that we were created “very good” -- that means, perfect! From the beginning, mankind has been ingenious, creative and inventive. The introduction of sin and corruption has caused the serious decline over the years.
With fascinating illustrations, this session contrasts the evolution model with the creation model from a historic viewpoint through a look at what many ancient cultures were able to accomplish. It contrasts some of these civilizations to our own, and offers a stark warning to us who are alive today.
“That which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there anything whereof it may be said, See, this is new? It hath been already of old time, which was before us.” Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
