The book of Genesis (particularly the first twelve chapters) is critically important to the Bible and to the Christian world view. Why? Because in it we find the record not only of God’s definitive creative events, but also the information about the whole “creation model”.
This would include the effects of sin entering the world, the flood and its aftermath, the events at Babel, the implications of the Abrahamic Covenant, and the nations of the world. Additionally, Genesis contains the roots of all of the major doctrines taught in the New Testament. Without the foundational book of Genesis, the rest of Scripture doesn’t make sense. A proper understanding of Genesis will help us to comprehend many interesting issues, such as why we don’t live for 900 years any more, what really happened to the dinosaurs, when and why mankind’s diet changed, etc.
This session illustrates some of the significant reasons why it is so important to study this book and what the implications are. Furthermore, it will help us understand Christian values and give us a firm ground on which to base our belief system. Genesis is not a myth or “just a pleasant story”: It is literal, historical narrative.
Also in this session, areas of special interest are covered, such as why a creation “day” was a literal, 24-hour, single rotation of the Earth, and not millions of years. It covers the danger of compromise, and contrasts the fruit of the evolution position with the creation position.
